Muthukaruppan Hr.Sec School

This school was started by Mr.Muthukaruppan in the year 1930. The School Called Muthukaruppan Hr.Sec. School, is based at small village called Sillankulam, Ottapidaram Taluk, Tuticorin District Tamilnadu. This school is mainly running for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe poor and underprivileged Children. The toal strength of this School is around 4654 both boys and girls. The founder of this school is Mr.Muthukaruppa Kudumban. The present secretary is Mr.Karuppasamy. The founder of this School Mr.Muthukaruppan, belongs to Scheduled Caste Community. More than 90% of the students from Scheduled Caste Community study in this School.
The primary goal of this School is
· To Provide Educational Assistance to the poor Children especially Scheduled Caste who are unable to get School Education.
The main features of the School are:
1. Focus on girls, especially belonging to SC/ST/socially voiceless OBC groups
2. Free text books for girls and boys student
3. Free Delicious and Nutritious food and accommodation available for both a boys and girls
4. Special Coaching classes for the weak students.
5. Naturally Pleasant learning environment
6. All the Teachers are from Scheduled Caste, so the students are taken care in individual.
7. Good Dining Hall.
8. Both toilet and Bathrooms are very Hygienic and Neat
Our observation:
The first school education was started by Mahatma Jothibha Phule and Savithribha Phule at Maharashtra in the year 1848 for the Scheduled Caste Children. Because of the British Rule in India, both a Phule’s were got Education. The first revolution started in the year 1848 through Education. But this Mahatma Jothibha Phule belongs to Backward Community.
We are thinking that Muthukaruppa Kudumpan is the first Scheduled Caste man started his school for Scheduled Caste Children in Tamilnadu before Independence. We are proud and remember his sacrifice for the Downtrodden particularly for Adishudras (this language used before the Constitution of India written by Babashab Dr.Ambedkar). We have planned to release his image very soon at Delhi.
Last Week:
Mr.Pramod Kureel, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Mr.Jeevan Kumar, Socio political activist, visited this school. Our MP got surprised to see our Children. On his observation he said that
· He has pained to see more than 90% of our Children not wear Chappell and 1st to 12th students sit in the floor not desk and bench for the students.
· 90% children’s schooling and accommodation are in the same Class Room.
· Our children’s faces are looking bright and confident.
· He asked the School Percentage and it was said that, last year 96.5% for 12th Standard and 94.5% for 10th Standard
· Finally he asked about the School Library. Every School Staff Kept Mum.
Our MP asked the management to give Requisition letter for Library. MP also has planned to give some contribution from MP fund.
